Adding a Staircase to your Bunk or Loft

Stairs are the safest and most comfortable way to enter an elevated bed - not just for kids but adults too! As an added bonus - each step of the Maxtrix® staircase doubles as a drawer, providing valuable storage space in every step! Taller beds get the benefit of an additional fourth step and taller banisters. Staircases are reversible and can be attached to either side of your bunk or loft bed.

Adding a Slide to your Bunk or Loft

You can add a slide to any Maxtrix® loft or bunk bed – whether you add it right away or later. All slides are reversible - they can be added to the right or left side without additional parts required. All slides can easily be removed when desired. Adding a slide will take up some extra floor space. Here are the measurements to consider:

Adding a Platform Slide to your Bunk or Loft

The Platform Slide is a great option when you want a slide but space is limited. Attaching the slide to the side of the bed helps reduce overall footprint. This slide design can be attached to either side of the bed.

Guardrails

Tall guardrails are a critical safety feature for elevated beds. Maxtrix® guardrails are the tallest in the industry at 16” high from the slat to the top of the rail. We strongly recommend using low profile mattresses with any loft or bunk in order to maximize safety rail height and headroom for bottom bunks. Remember, the thicker the mattress you use, the lower your guardrail will be.

Storage & Furniture

Coordinating furniture can either be used as free-standing furniture to complete a room, or fit exactly underneath different height loft beds to create space saving study and storage lofts. All furniture you see in pre-configured Maxtrix® lofts are not attached and can easily be removed or re-configured. Find out about adding “Crowns and Bases” on Maxtrix® Storage furniture here.

Do you need a bed frame to have a headboard?

At Maxtrix, a headboard (or “bed end” as we refer to them) is essential to the bed structure. Because we are a component-based system, there is no “frame”, but rather bed ends, bedside rails and slat roll, which connect to form the core of the bed.

How can I make my bed higher?

Make your Maxtrix bed higher with our leg extension & ladder kits! Whether you choose low, mid or high loft, our patented rock lock system provides a super secure connection between the leg extensions and your Maxtrix bed ends. Be sure to check out our helpful guide to choosing the right height for your child!

How do I choose a bed frame?

At Maxtrix, we do not offer bed frames in the traditional sense, rather “core” beds. A Core Bed is perfectly functional on its own, but is also designed to be raised into a loft, or stacked to create a bunk bed. For help, visit our guide to the Maxtrix System.

How many types of beds are there?

There are many different types of beds, and at Maxtrix we offer a wide range of Bunk Beds, Loft Beds, Day Beds, Toddler Beds and Traditional Beds. Our component-based system allows you to customize and change configurations, so the options are (almost!) endless.

What is a storage bed?

Our storage beds are traditional Loft Beds paired with coordinating casegoods, designed to fit perfectly beneath the bed to form a neat cube. You can also add storage to a Maxtrix bunk bed or kids bed, with our underbed drawers and trundle storage. Learn more about creating the perfect kids storage bed!

What is the best adjustable bed on the market?

Maxtrix Kids is the world’s largest furniture system! Designed as component-based system, our beds can be configured (and re-configured) any way you would like. Raise, stack, or add and remove features to your Maxtrix bed over time. Learn more about the Maxtrix System.

Can I separate a bunk bed into 2 beds?

Yes! Maxtrix bunk beds can be separated into 2 individual beds. Maxtrix is a system, and our beds are designed to be converted.

Can I make my bed bigger?

You can make your Maxtrix bed bigger thanks to our component-based system. Raise it into a loft bed, stack into bunk beds, or go wider in size. Complete our Reconfiguration Form for help from our team of experts.

Are these beds reversible?

Yes! All Maxtrix beds can be assembled “mirror image”, and ladders, staircases and slides can be placed on either the right or left side of the bed (your choice at time of assembly).

Which bed frame is best?

At Maxtrix, we do not offer bed frames in the traditional sense, but rather “core” beds. Which Core bed is best for you will depend on what you ultimately wish to do (i.e. reconfigure to a bunk bed or loft bed).

Which wood is best for bed?

Maxtrix beds are constructed from premium grade, solid hardwood, including Maple, Aspen & Birch, ensuring a super safe, high quality bed that will last for years to come.

Why do beds have headboards?

Headboards are lovely design feature, but at Maxtrix, a headboard (or “bed end” as we refer to them) is also essential to the bed structure. Bed ends connect to the bedside rails to form the foundation of your bed.

Why do you need a bed frame?

A bed frame serves as a foundation upon which to place your mattress. Because Maxtrix is a component based system, there is no bed frame in the traditional sense, but rather 3 essential components (bed ends, bedside rails & slats), which connect to form our “core bed” which serves as the heart of all Maxtrix bed configurations.
